Introduction to Articles

The articles section will be an ongoing work in progress to include topics on recording techniques, tube guitar amplifiers, and studio gear, as well as non-technical subjects of interest to the general music community. 

Articles on studio techniques will be aimed at folks who are growing their own studio from beginner level up to about the second year of business. The answer to almost any studio question is first, “it depends,” and then we elaborate around some particular circumstance. For the articles, I’ll try to focus on topics that are somewhat more universal. Some of the more theoretical subjects will be presented more as points of interest, or starting points, and won’t be of the calibre of the best authors on the subjects. But, in those cases, I’ll try to provide a recommended reading list of where you can find some expertly researched and written material.

Articles on studio gear will include some helpful ideas for finding the right gear, as well as a few reviews of equipment I’ve found to be the most useful. Equipment reviews will be only for gear that I own and am very familiar with. The only thing I’m selling on this site is my music, so the gear reviews won’t be biased in favor of something I sell. However, your retail sales person will know much more about the broader range of available gear and more about comparisons and recommendations from the full range of currently available recording gear. 

Articles on tube amplifiers and guitar recording will be of interest to anyone using a tube guitar amp or having interest in recording the electric or acoustic guitar, either at home or in a hired studio.

Articles of interest to the general music community will include topics on finding a good studio for your project, planning and managing your recording project, as well as some of the psychological stumbling blocks that often surface in the process.

Guest articles will also be in progress. I hope you’ll find some useful and/or entertaining reading. Thanks for visiting!
